5pm-6pm Thursday
Chocolate and Wine Tasting
With talk by Dr. Paul Ray (author of The Cultural Creatives)
Dragonfly Media is generously sponsoring a reception in which you are invited to sample premiere dark chocolates from around the world and a variety of organic wines. The chocolates will range in cocoa content from 50% to 100%, and will include chocolates made exclusively with cocoa beans from particular countries. A short introduction into the history and appreciation of chocolates will be provided by Dragonfly Board member, Richard Perl.
Paul Ray's book, The Cultural Creatives: 50 million Americans who are changing the world, speaks to an emerging "values-based" consensus that may result in a new form of progressive politics. His recent paper, "The New Political Compass", identifies hopeful trends for a new political majority grounded in the environmental, womens', peace, social justice and personal growth communities. Paul will speak about the economic and political potential of this increasingly influential community and on the essential role for independent media in bringing about the integration and activation of this new political majority.
Paul will be introduced by Ron Williams, founder and CEO of Dragonfly Media, a new company which is acquiring a dozen city-based free-distribution monthly magazines serving progressive, environmental and "mind/body/sprit" niches in major U.S. and Canadian cities.
Imagine a profitable, socially responsible, independent media company, operating in a dozen North American markets, linking consumers, practitioners, civil society organizations and socially responsible businesses in the growing movement that comprises healthy lifestyles, social and economic justice, personal growth and sustainable business.
Through a strategic roll-up, Dragonfly Media is building such a company, assembling a group of locally focused, free-distribution magazines serving progressive, environmental and "mind/body/sprit" niches in major U.S. and Canadian cities. To these well-established operations, Dragonfly's experienced team is adding professional management, advanced business systems and deep editorial content.
The issues facing the world today call for local actions that create alignment among individuals, businesses and civil society organizations along national and global themes; Dragonfly will provide unique connectivity between these constituencies. Dragonfly is already operating in Chicago, Los Angeles and
Vancouver; San Francisco and Seattle deals are under contract for closing in early 2003.
